Meet the Team Raskin
Democracy Summer Interns


Josh Zipin is a rising Blair senior who hopes more than anyone that Jamie gets elected. He is also an avid soccer player and will be taking time out from helping elect Jamie to play in the US Youth National Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. He is excited to be working with Jamie and all the other interns.
Caitlin O'Brien is an 18-year-old who was born and raised in downtown Silver Spring. She just spent her first year away from her hometown in Burlington, Vermont at the University of Vermont where she will continue studying Political Science and Geography in the fall. She is excited to be working on her first political campaign volunteering for Jamie Raskin.
Charlotte Agger, a lifelong district 20 resident, is a rising Junior at Vanderbilt University in good ole Nashville, Tennessee. Charlotte is majoring in Cognitive Science and is devoted to many clubs and activities at Vanderbilt including the College Democrats Club, Vanderbuddies (a tutoring outreach program for inner-city children) and The Vanderbilt Club Field Hockey Team. Charlotte is extremely excited to be spending her summer working on the Raskin campaign and helping to lead Jamie to the Senate. GO RASKIN '06!
Ian Gold is a life long Takoma Park resident and is a rising sophomore at Montgomery Blair Hugh school. Ian is a student in the Cultural Arts Program at his high school. Ian plays on the Blair lacrosse, cross-country, and ultimate Frisbee team. Ian is excited about working with Jamie as an intern over the summer.
Nora Boedecker is a recent graduate of Montgomery Blair High School and a life-long resident of Takoma Park. In the fall Nora will be heading out to Scripps College in California where she hopes to study theater and international relations. This is Nora's first experience on a political campaign and couldn't imagine a better candidate to be working for.
Genaye Channel is originally from Las Vegas NV, and now resides in Pennsylvania. She is a goal oriented SR. Broadcast Journalism Major, with a minor in Political studies. She is currently the Student Association Vice President of Columbia Union College. In her spare time you can find her working diligently on news packages dealing with current events, politics, and anything that is newsworthy. Her future plans include working at a major news station as an anchor, and attending Law School for Entertainment Law.
Tom Christie is a high school student, going into his senior year at the Fieldston School in New York City. The Raskin ’06 campaign is the first political campaign he has ever worked on. He learned about Jamie through friend and fellow campaign worker Marlana Valdez, and he has now become a full-fledged Jamie supporter despite the fact that his home is far from District 20. Back up in New York, Tom enjoys playing sports for his school teams, specifically football and lacrosse. He plans on continuing his work for the campaign through July 2006, until he has to return home to New York.
Justin Vlasits is a rising senior at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring and is excited to be working for Jamie as an intern. Justin has been politically active previously, heading a progressive student organization at Blair and working on protest concert Operation Ceasefire. In 2004 he worked for Valerie Ervin for Board of Education and for America Coming Together in an effort to get the vote out for Kerry in Pennsylvania. In his spare time, Justin enjoys playing guitar, participating in Blair's It's Academic team. He looks forward to a career in law, journalism or politics.
Jeb Koogler is an 18-year-old student, born and raised on an island off the coast of Seattle. He spent most of last year in Jordan and Syria studying Arabic and Middle Eastern politics and will be a freshman at Brown University in the fall.
Thierno Balde holds a JD from Lausanne University, an LL.M from Geneva University, two LLM’s from Washington College of Law of American University and a JSM from Stanford University. He has worked for Sterling International Merchant Finance, Ltd. as a legal Analyst, as well as for the World Bank Group. He is currently volunteering for Jamie Raskin’s campaign before joining the World Bank Group again in July 2006.
Kimberly Myers grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. Her interests in political science led her to Washington, D.C. in the spring of 2004. She currently is a junior at the University of Maryland, College Park where she is working toward her Bachelor’s degree in Government and Politics and Economics. Kimberly is new to political campaigning, but she is excited to learn about the process and contribute to Mr. Raskin's success in his bid for State Senate.
Gavin Weiss was born in Takoma Park, Maryland, and has lived in Rockville, Maryland for nineteen years. He has one older brother, Jared, one younger brother, Dylan, and a dog, Brandy. Gavin graduated from the International Baccalaureate program at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville in 2003. He spent two summers working at the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington, DC. Currently a senior double-majoring in Economics and History at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, Gavin hopes to be attending law school in the Fall of 2007.
Nathan Barrymore is a rising sophmore at Claremont McKenna College in California. He enjoys politics, music and sports. He desperately wants Jamie to become a State Senator because he believes optimism is an essential and undervalued quality in politics and life.
Joshua Werbeck recently completed his third year at Siena College in Albany, New York. His academic concentrations are political science and religious studies in addition to an extracurricular focus on political activism. Joshua is President and co-founder of Siena's latest chapter of Campus Action, an activist umbrella group for the college, and Communications Director for the Siena College Student Senate. He is active in local Albany County political campaigns and organizing. Joshua grew up in Syracuse, New York with his family and attended Cicero-North Syracuse High School. He is 21 years old.

Joshua was attracted to the Raskin campaign for State Senate because of the intense community focus in the campaign and the wonderful and prevalent support from Jamie's family. He is continuously impressed with the passion, motivation, interest, and intelligence of the people involved in the Raskin 06' campaign and eager to offer as much help as possible.


Andrew Dana was born in Washington, DC, and graduated from Georgetown Day School in 2004. Andrew is currently attending the College of Charleston in South Carolina where he is studying Political Science with a minor in Crime, Law, and Society. He is home for the summer working on the campaign and landscaping.
Cori Cohen is a Junior, Government and Politics major, at the University of Maryland. She is a member of the International Studies Scholars Program, and the Primannium Honors Society. She is a graduate of the Communication Arts Program at Montgomery Blair High School. In her spare time she enjoys playing volleyball.
Caleb Seavey is an upcoming sophomore at District 20's own Montgomery Blair High School. He is an officer with young democrats at both the local and county level. He has worked for many campaigns including Aaron Klein for State Delegate as a website designer and campaign administrator. He is currently volunteering for Jamie Raskin's campaign because of Jamie's unwillingness to settle for substandard.
Teddy Berlin graduated Georgetown Day school in 2004. He currently attends the University of Michigan where he majors in Sport Management. This summer he worked for Congressman Chris Van Hollen and is now working for Jamie Raskin.
Sugam Langer is a resident in Albany, New York. She moved to the United States from Jammu, Kashmir India in 1991 and has resided in Albany ever since. Daughter of Dr. Bharat and Seema Lager she has one younger brother named Vansh. Currently Sugam is enrolled in Siena College, and will begin her senior year this fall. She is a passionate student of Siena College, who is heavily involved with the community. She plays Division 1 collegiate tennis and helped her team win the 2006 MACC Championships, and continue on to the NCAA Division 1 Tennis Tournament held in Clemson, OH. She is the captain of the Moot Court Mock Trial Team at Siena College. She helps celebrate and expand her culture by being the captain of an Indian dance team called the Siena College Bhangra Team.

She joins Democracy Summer through her internship at American University known as Summer Legal Fellows. She is thrilled to work with the energetic and vibrant Democracy Summer group in hopes of bringing victory in the name of Jamie Raskin!
